HEIDELBERG, GERMANY, 20 October 2026 – PRECISIS GmbH and Medical Center University of Freiburg have launched CLOUDIA, a 24-month research project exploring how connected technologies, artificial intelligence and data-driven insights can support the future of epilepsy care.
CLOUDIA – CLOUD-based intelligent assistance system for Epilepsy – brings together the expertise of PRECISIS and University Medical Center Freiburg to explore a comprehensive digital ecosystem for epilepsy care. The project will investigate how data from current and future PRECISIS neurostimulation systems can be securely connected with relevant clinical information and advanced analytical approaches to support more informed, patient-centered care.
A key focus of the project is the integration of AI-supported diagnostics and long-term data analysis. The partners will investigate how relevant information can be captured, connected and made available to healthcare professionals to support the ongoing monitoring and management of people living with epilepsy.
Quality management, regulatory requirements, cybersecurity, data protection and clinical evaluation are being considered from the outset of the project. This integrated approach is intended to establish a robust foundation for the development and future evaluation of the CLOUDIA ecosystem.
“CLOUDIA gives us the opportunity to look beyond the neurostimulation system itself and explore how secure connectivity and intelligent data analysis could shape the next generation of epilepsy care,” says Dr. Lydia Maus, Project Lead and Innovation Manager at PRECISIS. “Working together with Medical Center University of Freiburg brings together complementary expertise in technology, clinical research and epilepsy care. This collaboration is an important step in exploring what a more connected approach to neurostimulation could look like.”
The project will investigate how combining technologies, clinical information and advanced data analysis could enable more continuous monitoring and provide physicians with additional information to support the management of epilepsy over time. AI-based data analysis will be an important area of research within the project.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Schulze-Bonhage, Principal Investigator at Medical Center University of Freiburg, adds: “Epilepsy is a condition that evolves over time, while clinical decision-making often relies on information collected at individual points in time. CLOUDIA allows us to investigate how continuous data and advanced analytical methods could contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of patients and to a timely targeted treatment.”
Innovation funded through Invest BW
CLOUDIA is a research project with a total project volume of more than €1 million, supported in part through Invest BW, the state of Baden-Württemberg’s flagship innovation funding programme. Invest BW supports research and development projects that strengthen innovation and economic growth in the region.
