One system, two effects
The central electrode in the electrode mat can work optionally as an anode or cathode, depending on whether an excitatory or inhibitory effect is sought. This makes EASEE® a flexible system, expanding future indications beyond epilepsy to other functional cerebral diseases.
If the central electrode is set as a negative pole it has an inhibitory effect, leading to a reduction in the excitability of the brain e.g. to treat epilepsy. On the other hand, if the central electrode is set as a positive pole, it has an excitatory effect. In this case EASEE® could help shorten the rehabilitation phase of stroke patients or benefit people suffering from major depression, so that they can better manage their everyday lives.
Precisis AG sees itself as a technological development company and complex disorders of the brain are a challenge for us. While our initial focus with the EASEE® System is on epilepsy, we realise that this novel brain stimulation method could have a positive impact on several other chronic conditions, such as major depression, migraine or chronic pain and hope to address these indications in the future.
